It is in human nature to get angry and if any of you does not feel anger at all,  then woops; we have a problem don't we lol.

Anger is one of the evil whispers of Shaytaan which leads to so many evils and tragedies, of which only Allah (S.W.T) knows their full extent. For example; if we look around, the first thing that anger leads to is disputes and misunderstandings amongst friends and families. For this reason Islam has a great deal to say about this bad characteristic.  Our Beloved Prophet (P.B.U.H) has prescribed us different ways to limit the effect of anger. There is numerous authentic Hadith pertaining to this issue but we will focus on only a handful of them.

Firstly, Prophet (P.B.U.H) has given his Ummah an advice which goes to show that anger is a serious issue within the human nature which should be dealt with appropriately:

Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported that a man said to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), "Advise me." He said, "Do not become angry." The man repeated his request several times, and each time the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) told him, "Do not become angry." (Reported by al-Bukhaari, Fath al-Bari, 10/456).

One of the most simple simplest things (yet we don't do it) is to keep silent in times of anger. In majority of the situations, an angry person tends to lose control of themselves and could use inappropriate language. In the case of couples, it could sometimes lead to pronouncing divorce (Yes, it's true) which has major impacts on their lives especially if the couple has children. Inappropriate language can also bring enmity and hatred within the Ummah as well as others for that matter (which is widely evident in the present society).

Imam Ahmed reports - The Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H) said: "If any of you becomes angry, let him keep silent." (Al-Musnad, 1/329; see also Saheeh al-Jaami’, 693, 4027).

My dear brothers and sisters, Silence is a great weapon to induce peace and harmony amongst each other.

Another way of controlling anger is prescribed in the following Hadith which has been narrated by Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him):

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "If any of you becomes angry and he is standing, let him sit down, so his anger will go away; if it does not go away, let him lie down." (Musnad Ahmad, 5/152; see also Saheeh al-Jaami’, no. 694).

Allah (S.W.T) promises great rewards to the one who controls his/her anger which have been told to us by the Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H). One of the Hadiths goes as follows:

"Whoever controls his anger at the time when he has the means to act upon it, Allah will fill his heart with contentment on the Day of Resurrection." ( al-Tabaraani, 12/453, see also Saheeh al-Jaami’, 6518).

SubhanAllah, don't we need a calm and peaceful heart on the day of judgement when everyone's hearts and minds will be filled with fear and concern?

A very interesting story which teaches a great lesson from the greatest teacher of all-time, Prophet (P.B.U.H):

Anas reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed by some people who were wrestling. He asked, "What is this?" They said: "So-and-so is the strongest, he can beat anybody." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Shall I not tell you who is even stronger then him? The man who, when he is mistreated by another, controls his anger, has defeated his own shaytaan and the shaytaan of the one who made him angry." (Reported by al-Bazzaar, and Ibn Hijr said its isnaad is saheeh. Al-Fath, 10/519)

Isn't it worth it to control your anger, defeat the Shaytaan and get rewarded by the lord of the heavens and the earth? I am sure everyone would say YES! It's worth it =D.
